NSW AC Gold Doubles and Singles 2025
The AC Gold Doubles and Singles competitions were hosted by Killara Croquet Club on 3-6 May.
After so many rainy days, we were blessed with perfect weather, even the notorious breezes of Regimental Park were restrained, and the lawns were well cut and reasonably paced. Members of Killara club did us proud, with hospitable morning and afternoon teas and carefully-set hoops, and Maria Morton and Ron Buist refereed with patience and good humour. Four pairs contested the Doubles, and four players (owing to a forced withdrawal) the Singles, so the format was the same for both competitions - a round robin followed by a knockout for all the players. Liz and Peter Montague won all three matches in the round robin, but only narrowly survived the knockout to win the final against Gerard Barry and Kathie Maloney. Margaret Sawers and Ron Humpherson defeated Ron Buist and David Stanton to take third place. Liz Montague dominated the Singles block with three wins, while the others fought close matches to take one each. The pattern in the knockout was similar, with Liz emerging the clear winner, having reached 20 or more hoops in every match of the competition. David Surridge won the 3/4 play-off.
